Our Story

Australian Shepherds have been in our family 4 generations, they continue to be the breed of choice for our family and extended family.  Our grandfather owned and operated Hartspride Holsteins and Hartspride Farms with our father.  Australian Shepherds were our family's breed, our childhood guardians, and the working dogs used in various farming operations by our family and extended family over the years.

I had 5 Aussies growing up, including a red merle female called Freckles that our grandparents had given me.  My autistic brother's first dog, Coal was a black tri Australian Shepherd.  I eventually trained our dogs to be a recreational dog sled team.

As a young adult, I worked for 3 years as a dog handler at a privately owned protection kennel.  With the black tris Storm and Comet, I developed a passion for training, handling, and working dogs.

Years later, in 2016, I realized nearly too late that we were about to lose the bloodlines of the versatile, docile, and loyal dogs that we loved so much.  After nearly two years of searching and waiting, I was able to purchase Echo, a blue merle puppy that was directly related to Coal, and my past sled team.

Hartspride Australian Shepherds was created in 2021 out of passion for the breed, to preserve the bloodlines of the amazing dogs that we nearly lost.  And it was named as a tribute to our grandfather's legacy.

In 2024 one of our purchased dogs' OFAs came back dysplastic.  Another of our homebred dogs suffered a tendon injury that required 2 surgeries and months of rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

Hartspulse Training was created in 2024 to help rehabilitate and restore quality of life for dogs that have genetic or environmental physical imparment(s).  As a symbol of the tremendous heart and versatility of this breed we hope to also train Hartspulse demo dogs.
